The games has a specific way they want you to go about developing character relationships it might freeze on a black screen if it's outta order, however all you have to do it reload the game and work on a different character for a little then when you go back to progress further it should work. So I HIGHLY recommend saving before every H-scene so you don't lose progress. Other than that it runs really smooth even on high performance mode(:
