Story seems interesting, I am not sure about the choice to make the magic item a wristwatch, considering they seem to be going for a more mystical approach and that kind of watch is very XIX/XX century. No much ground for "Elder Gods" undertones. But I suppose that can be justified in the story. This initial sex scene is cute, but undermine the idea of a big change for the better about to happen.
Like ReplyFinally, one trope that is obvious here, and has nothing wrong per se. Just has being over-used in media during that first quarter of century is the "bad father" trope. I know it is still very popular because a lot of people likes it. So, that is just a personal note. But I am certainly not the only human being to feel that way. This archetype deserves a rest, for the next couple years or decades. At very least a little less work, if not full retirement.
